Today (which according the clock is actually yesterday) I got up and took my dog to the vet, then tried to fix the server.
Josie calls and asks for the English homework, and while I'm on the phone with her my mom picks up and says "John, you've got some mail here." So I talk for another ten minutes, then hang up and go upstairs, and she hands me an envelope from Illinois University at Urbana-Champaign. I'm like "whoa, this is pretty thick" and she's like "read the front." It said "Get Ready for 2003." Immediately I'm thinking "holy cow! I'm in!" but when I opened up it's like "Sorry" ... no, just kidding, it was like "Congratulations on your admission to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for the fall 2003 semester!" And yeah, you can guess, I get excited and say "I'm going to college!" and what have you. It was good news, and they're fifth in the nation for computer engineering (my major) according to US News and World Report. Yesterday a Gold Key, today college. It's been a good two days.
EXCEPT I'M SICK! But yeah, so then I work on the server and can't figure out why DNS and internet sharing won't work. If I reset the thing, then it would work temporarily for about ten minutes and then mess up again. And WHEN it was in the mess up stage, I'd get on the server and it'd be running horribly slow. So finally, I still can't fix it, and I check McAfee.com and lo and behold dead front SQLSlammer, a new virus. Low risk, thank god, and NO PAYLOAD. PHEW. But it basically uses all available system resources to scour the net for more people to infect. It affects anything Pre-Service Pack 3, and unfortunately I was running Service Pack 2. SP3 just recently came out. So the only thing I had to do was install SP3 for SQL Server 2000 and restart the server, and now everything is ship shape again. Hurray. Sorry for the down time.
So I am sick, and took some nyquil, and this took a while to write, so now I'm going ot bed.
Spork.

Are you going to go to Illinois John?? I got in (not the engineering, that was a little to advanced for me) but I don't think I'll be able to go, way to expensive. My parents and I head up there a lot though to watch all the football games. That's cool that ya got in. Good luck there if you go.

Thanks, congrats on your acceptance as well, and I'm sure you could have done engineering, I mean we're all MST. But I dunno if I'll go, depends on what other schools accept me. It seems to me like all colleges are expensive ... Illinois is actually only about half the price of a couple of the schools I'm looking at, so that puts U of I a lot higher on my list for that reason. Oh, and the 5th in the nation for computer engineering is also appealing (except I don't WANT to study computers, I only used that as my ticket in ...)
But yeah, I dunno, I lived in Chicago for six years and a lot of my good friends are going there, so that'd be a major bonus.
But we'll see how it all turns out in the end.
I remember the first UofL game I went to was in sixth grade and they played Illinois, and I only went cause my friend from Chicago happened to ride down on UofI's bus ... so I met him when he got here and we went ... and Louisville actually beat Illinois, and if I remember it was Louisville's first win that year.
Anyway, homeswerk calls.

yeah, college tuition is going to be a pain for a LONG time. I got accepted to Cincinnati Bible College, and that is like $13,000 a year. It's crazy because it's a private college. At least I dont have to worry any more about what college I'm going to. I'm Curious, who all is going where? Anyone going to Unniversity of Cinncinati?

Hey John. Congrats on Illinois. I am more than likely going to U of I also. My major is going to be civil engineering.

That's funny John, the first UofL game I went to here was freshman year when they played UofI. It was their first loss of the season. My dad and I were the only orange people in this mass sea of red. We were the only ones cheering at the end of the game, too.

Nah, not Cincinatti. Since it looks like I won't be able to get that U of L free tuition after all, I'm shooting straight for Columbia College Chicago, the cheapest college with a Traditional (2D) Animation major. It's about $7000/semester sadly.

OSU owns me with tuition... 16,000 a year plus 6,000 room/board plus misc fees... I've got 6,500/year in scholarships right now so lets say that leaves 16,000 a year... I'd better get looking for more money!
Congrats to everyone who got into the school they wanted... and just remember... UofL DIDN'T accept me.
