It's a sad day at thespork.com. It seems that my email server which handles all the requests for stuff like heartsblood1@home.com has been added some how to the Relay Spam Stopper Blacklist. What that means, is that a bunch of email servers in an organization will no longer except email from me. Now, this could have been going on for ages, and actually, has no affect whatsoever on me. WHAT IT DOES MEAN, is two things. One, somehow, someone has been using my email server without me knowing and sending loads and loads of spam through it. This in turn, means the second thing. That @home found out that one of THEIR ip addresses has been added to the list, and so they port scanned me. That's what tipped them off.
Now, I called up @home and spoke to them. The guy saw I had the domain name thespork.com, BUT NOT the website. Which is good, because that means I can keep the website so that the THREE OF YOU that actually visit the site can keep coming. But, that does mean one bad thing. For those of you who have sites with thespork.com, I'm going to have to take down the ftp server. What I will do though, is replace it with the frontpage server extensions so that you can at least update using something. I know how much of a hassle this is, but, y'know. I'm also going to have to take down the email server. Which is bad for the 3 of us that use our email: me, fiend, and matt. I know this is a MAJOR bitch and a half.
So, what now? Well, I'm going to have to take down all the email servers. It was ACTUALLY only the send mail server that screwed everything up, but now @home knows about ALL of them. I'll also take down FTP, HTTPS (not HTTP), and a few others that I dont' need anyway, just so that the list of open ports goes down. I'll still keep the website here. I'm also going to switch off of Windows 2000 Advanced Server and move to Windows 2000 Regular Server sometime in the near future. I'm definitely going to search around for FREE email servers out there. I'm also going to switch my DNS server to public dns at granitecanyon.com. This is really a pain in the ass. But at least the website can go on. Besides, I NEED this website so I can test my asp code.
So, for the few of you who had email here, I'm very very sorry. Email me, now at the new address heartsblood1@home.com. Thanks.
Administrator.
P.S. This page shows that the mail program I was using is set up AS THE DEFUALT option to be vulnerable to this type of attack that tipped off @home. How fucking horrible. What I'll probably do, is lay low for a few months. Not use email anymore. Take all the other servers down, get my IP address OFF of the list, etc. Then bring it back in a few months.
