Important Sporkmail Update
For those of you who use sporkmail, there is an important change in the way we are now operating the send mail features. Earlier, during the days of the first sporkmail server (the one that got shut down), I had mail relay options set so that our server would relay for anybody. That's partly what got me in trouble. Now, we have changed things so that we don't relay for anybody at all. What does this mean? You can't send mail! (when you're not authorized, that is).
So how do you authorize yourself? Easy, just by telling your email client that you need to log in when sending mail in addition to receiving. That's the beautiful thing about smtp and sending email is that you can pretend to be anyone! It's genius ...
Anyway, to tell Outlook XP that you need to login to send mail do the following:
1) goto tools>e-mail accounts
2) select "view or change existing email accounts" and hit next
3) select the spork mail server settings (defaults will be "mail.thespork.com" unless you chose something else)
4) hit change...
5) in the lower right, hit the "more settings..." button
6) under the outgoing server tag select "my outgoing server requires authentication"
7) select "log on using ..." and then enter your information
8) it may require that your username be user@thespork.com instead of just user (example, spork@thespork.com instead of just spork)
9) to be safe, I'd log in under every setting as user@thespork.com instead of just user, because I may in the future serve email for another domain name, like correctdesign.com ... once that happens, it will REQUIRE you to use user@domain instead of just user, so it's a good idea to switch that over now ...
10) hit ok to all option boxes to close, and now try sending mail ... should work fine
cool, thanks guys
