With the new year almost here, a lot of new things have happened for what I once referred to as TheSpork.NET.
First, a new server. I have relocated from hosting out of my parents basement in Kentucky remotely from around the nation to hosting with 1and1 . This means a few new things. No more Windows server; it's all unix from here out. Also, that means no more ASP.NET or even ASP. If I code anything here myself it will likely be PHP/MySQL. This leads to my next *big* new thing.
Second, we have a new publishing platform. What I also once referred to as TheSpork.NET and before that just "my scripts" (hmm, maybe I should have called that MyScripts to make it all WikiLike) is no longer availalbe for unix, plus it wasn't too powerful.
Welcome to Moveable Type!
With this new software, blogging was never easier, espeically as a blogging service administrator such as myself (even if i only administer my blog and Joanna's). Not only does it have all the functionality we had before, but it's written by professionals and is extremely robust. We have comments, trackbacks, and all those other nifty XML-RPC thingies plus RSS et al. TypeKey authentication is a great way of putting comments on my site, and since Six Apart (makers of Moveable Type) bought LiveJournal, you might see sometime in the future being able to sign in here with your livejournal account to comment on my site.
Third, and finally, I have decided to scrap the whole spork thing. It requires too much attention to one thing. So now we have GLite.net. What is GLite? Well I can tell you one thing, it is pronounced "jee-light" not "glyte." What does the G stand for? Nothing yet. I'm definitely open to suggestions in the comment section, but I can say that if you're looking for a story I wanted something five letters or less and pretty much every dictionary word that fits the description is taken for .com and .net, in fact pretty much every four letter domain name is taken period. So I had to improvise, and get something that isn't just random characters but can still be put into memory. I liked the idea of ::some letter:: + lite. I think when it came down to it, jlite was taken (which would handle my name) and it was basically between glite or zlite. glite seemed more grounded and less ... dorky than zlite. z is such a nerdy letter.

Here I am commenting with my typekey account. Huzzah.
It was decided last night that "glitty" (glit-tee) is also another pronunciation. I don't mind this one as much as "glyte" but I still prefer GLite.
